Dedication:
This page is dedicated to the most intelligent, talented, surfers and friends I ever had: Steve and Charlie.
Who were separated from me by misunderstanding, confusion, time and circumstance for 30 years, but who found me, by the
hand of providence, in my hour of great need.
Thanks Steve and Charlie.
This is Steve (with binoculars on left) and I in search of the elusive Green Fly Orchid in the swamps on Yellow River near
Crestview, Florida.
Steve's mother (who with infinite patience took us on all knids of wild adventures) took this shot of us when we weren't looking.
I am glad she did. I had no way of knowing that it would be the only picture I would have of Steve and I for about forty years.
We were camera shy, weren't we?
Seems silly now.

Mike and Rusty with Joy's Board
|
This is a picture of Rusty (on right) and I holding my sister Joy's new surf board in our front yard on Laurie Drive in Fort Walton
Beach, Florida, summer 1965 or 66. The board was 12 or 14 foot long and very heavy and sturdy with a solid wood stringer
down the middle. Picture taken by the girl next door, Patty.
This young surfer was the first into the dark water this morning, just as the sun was coming up.
Picture taken 6:46 AM January 28, 2006, near Okaloosa Island Pier, Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Right after I took this shot the surfer on the right said, "Hi Mike." It was my long time friend Tim. I did not recognize him at
first because the light was in my eyes. It was great to see him again. Tim owns the "Fluid" surf shop here in Ft. Walton
Beach. He stopped and we talked a little. I took a portrait of just him with the sunset in the background.
Not sure who they are but I am sure the are some well known surfers. I hope someone will clue me in on their names, so I
can include them here in the description of this great shot.
Picture was taken behind the Gulfarium in Fort Walton Beach, Florida on Okaloosa Island, January 27, 2006.

This is a portrait of Tim Carr a well known surfer here on the Gulf coast and the owner of Fluid Surf Shops here in Fort Walton
Beach and Destin, Florida. Tim has been surfing here for over thirty years. Because we were old friends he stopped and we
talked a little. I took a portrait of just him with the sunset in the background. This picture was taken after the "Fluid Trio" picture

Picture taken near the Okaloosa Island Pier.
Photo of two surfers who have just arrived this morning and are wading out past the shore break looking forward to their first
rides of the morning.
Picture was taken about 10 minutes after "Long Board into Bliss" and 25 minutes after "First into Bliss". These were the next
two surfers to arrive that morning. The picture was taken at the Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Okaloosa Island Pier.
